My daughter worked with Ruth for several months to correct a speech sound delay. Ruth had very practical advice and homework for practice each week (it was doable and not overwhelming to my daughter). I appreciated that the sessions were both child and parent friendly and that Ruth made sessions fun and engaging. She communicated with me as a parent in a straightforward way that helped me understand how I could best support my child in reaching her goals. My son needed speech therapy, but the sites recommended to us did not return our calls. I was extremely thankful that Be Brave Speech Therapy had a flyer at my son’s school. I messaged Be Brave Speech Therapy and by the end of the day we scheduled a meeting for an evaluation and goals for therapy.

His therapist, Mrs Ruth Maldonado, was professional, but also very kind and patient with my son. When she noticed that some letters/sounds were more problematic than others, she made sure that more time was given to work on said letters and sounds

Our virtual sessions were carefully crafted to ensure that my son met the goals. Every week, he looked forward to his speech sessions. My son hates doing homework, but he loved his speech sessions; he was extremely sad when he found out that his goals were met and as a result, speech therapy would end.

Be Brave Speech Therapy gave my son the tools he needed to be able to build a future where he can be confident with his speech.

My brother started seeing Ruth in August 2021 and we (family to even classmates!) have seen so much improvement in his speech! My brother is older and from the start Ruth mentioned the challenges and goals for him. She has provided excellent communication and transparency throughout the whole process. My son just finished working with Ruth after two years! When my son started with Ruth in October 2020 at the age of 3, he had articulation and phonological problems. Ruth worked with him twice a week consistently for the entire time to help him achieve all of his speech goals and we were able to prevent him needing any speech services when he entered kindergarten.

From a curricular standpoint, Ruth is incredible. She met my son at his level from the very beginning with age appropriate instruction and made the work interesting. She is always studying new techniques and not afraid to implement them. She is great at noticing when an activity is too challenging and frustrating for the child and retreats to something else to help build the child's confidence. She assesses in her sessions constantly and takes meticulous data. She does regular goal checks and gives detailed information for goal progression/new goals. She gives homework after each session that she knows will be helpful and fun.

From a personality standpoint, Ruth is hands down, the best SLP there is. She is so kind and loving towards the students and is always positive and fun! She gets to know her students likes and really utilizes those in session. Ruth is flexible during sessions and will meet your child with where they are at on that day! We had many sessions where my son was struggling with his behavior, but Ruth never complained and always persevered through the session encouraging him along the way. She is always on time for sessions and never cancels a session.

My son worked with her for about a year in person when she was located in San Bernardino County and then for another year virtually when she moved to San Diego. While in person, she always played games and had something interactive to do with the speech lesson whether it was coloring or going on a scavenger hunt. I was nervous when we switched to teletherapy as I was not sure my son would be able to stay focused on the computer for 30 minute sessions. Ruth was so engaging with him and found games and stories that she knew he would enjoy. This helped to strengthen their bond and make my son excited to log on! My son and I were both so sad when it was finally his last session. However, I am forever thankful and appreciative of all of Ruth's hard work with him and I know the success he is having now is all thanks to her!

Mrs. Maldonado was a fabulous speech therapist for my daughter. She is very professional and skilled at her practice. My daughter was able to graduate her program in 6 months!
