I was sent here 2021ish and out of all the institutions I have been sent to this was the most horrific facilities I have been too there was people throwing stuff staff was being extremely rude and makes comments about the patients look ,race, or gender but don’t get me wrong there was good staff. I was there for a max of 4 days my stay at the facility was supposed to be 4-3 months. Mind you I was extremely unstabled mentally so I did attempt to sneak sharps inside which I did and when the staff saw the stuff I snuck in they shrugged and left it inside the environment was so toxic there was objects getting thrown around there was people yelling across the room there was people crying young children 13 to 14 scared and the staff just sit there and watch so trying to calm them down or nothing I awolled a total of 4 or 3 times trying to leave eventually trying to get kicked out I ended up doing so but for any parents or families out there DO NOT SEND THEM HERE!

As an interventionist I’ve had nothing but great outcomes with the adolescents that have gone through here for treatment. I’ve witnessed complete change in behavior, better attendance in school, relapse prevention tools….. 3 kids (now adults) that I’ve heard from recently that are doing outstanding! I love that the families, patients and therapists work together on an aftercare plan that includes a behavior contract. I love that every patient is sent home with a plan that includes intensive outpatient and therapy.
Every time my staff and I drop off an adolescent we love how comforting and welcoming the staff at Discovery are.
Big shout out to am awesome program!!

DO NOT GO TO SAN JACINTO. Here is the san jacinto experience. I have been to a discovery residential in the past and i had an amazing experience, i came here expecting structure, cleanliness, and a safe environment to work on myself and recover in. The fact that this residential is under discovery’s company appalled me. This residential literally sent me into fight or flight for the first 4 days. I left after 5 days It was so horrid. It was so unstructured and we just sat around all day, it was all just downtime. The way I preoccupied myself was pacing back and forth, crying, and journaling. And the way patients treated each other and the staff was crazy. There was endless talk about drugs, profanity, cursing, and so many other insanely inappropriate topics and no one even batted an eye. I left knowing about so so so many more drugs and ways to get them just by being there, not even engaged in conversation. People touched and roughhoused with one another and people touched me a lot and didn't think anything of it which i was very surprised by. There was tons of bullying and cliques among patients and people were so judgemental, it was like highschool but with more drugs. There was a guy that was 2 months away from turning 18 hitting on a 15 year old, the same guy called a 13 year old ugly for no reason, the patients could do and act however they wanted with no consequence or redirection. They let people comment and judge the way others ate and what they were eating, and they didnt do anything to treat eating disorders at all as they stated. The meal tickets from the dietician weren't taken seriously, for example in the mornings for the specialty items they never gave those to you. It was dirty there was mildew in the bathrooms and was just filthy overall, with broken furniture as well. The kids rooms had clothes thrown all over the place, and there were tons of bugs. The whole thing was a mess and super disorganized, and the groups were so unproductive, there was 0 psychoeducation and sometimes we just watched a disney movie for all of the groups. We would just sit and discuss like a process group but they didn't teach us anything. Even some of the staff were disgusted with the way the facility was ran, patients have to give 10,000% to get anything out of this place while the program give them 2%, and most people don't have 10,000%. It's unacceptable and unhealthy. It was a miserable 5 days i spent there. The staff were extremely lax and did not monitor the patients hardly at all and let the patients run things, a lot of them just didn't seem to care at all. I was so stressed out in that environment, and all the other patients were complaining it wasn't helping them and they wanted to be taught more and have better groups. It was sad and hard to watch people get that kind of care. There was an autistic kid having a hard time with a treatment goal and the staff told them “your making it harder than it is!(frustrated)”. The place was a joke and out of control.

I'd give zero stars if i could. On 2 separate occasions we found dead rats in the swimming pools. There are roaches. Some staff are unprofessional and gossip about patients. Special shoutouts to everyone's favorite staff: Ms.Sunshine/Donna, Marina (redhead), Ms.Shanae from LA , (Not Connor),WE ALL LOVE MS.ALINA SHE IS THE BEST GOD BLESS THAT WOMAN!

I am absolutely in shock of the negative reviews that have been posted. This is by far not even close what we have experienced. Our child was sent there and it took some time for him to adjust. He wanted to leave, said all sorts of stuff that was painful, but we as a family rode it out, listened and put our trust in the staff, that has been VERY HELPFUL! We appreciated their patience, and meeting our son where he was at, helped identify his feelings which is a huge struggle. Our fear was no one would understand, dual diagnosis, on the spectrum, the list goes on. What I appreciate is that we had family group, and the kids there had group as well as 1.1.. The team showed him life skills, structure, and gave us an exit plan that we can use at home, which we still use to this day and happy to say that our boy is coming up on 2 years of sobriety, going to college and working!

Thank you and much appreciation to this amazing team that has given us hope especially to our boy 🙂

Much Gratitude,

Cheryl

I have way more to add to this rating. I am very concerned about how my daughter was treated at this place especially when discharged to the hospital and I didn't know where my child was and neither did the evening staff. I had to call between two different places to see where my daughter was. Call the police and find out where she was going. I finally located my child at 3:30am. The social worker at ETS had NO information regarding my child or why she was there at all. My daughter was left outside for hours waiting to be admitted. I am a professional and know how RTC are supposed to work and thank goodness for my connections. I wasn't contacted by the assigned therapist for hours and all she wanted to do was let me know my daughter wasn't able to come back. I would never place her in a place like this again nor deal with this agency and that is unfortunate because my experience was wonderful until she was placed at this RTC.

Even the hospital social worker acknowledged that how my daughter was handled by this place was not appropriate. The staff also embellished what was going on with my child. She was released within 24 hours with no medication needed and the doctor took the time to speak with my daughter regarding what occurred there at this place and why. He believes her. Do do I. Completely destroyed my trust in institutions like this. I will now start advocating so that nobody has to experience what I did. I have a very stellar track record in handling matters like this and it will be addressed.

Lastly how is this a secured place and my daughter is able to get ahold of glass? How can the therapist who I'm certain is an understudy recommend my daughter go to a lock facility without clearly being aware of the situation. My daughter was only at this place for a week. The officer did not have an issue with her she did not act out at the hospital at all. She was triggered by someone or someones at this place.

There is a big disconnect here and I would advise you not send your child in crisis here. Her behavior only escalated. One staff person said that she stinks and to get away from her an evening staff member . The only thing that stinks is the lack of professionalism at this facility and you can take my word for it.

The therapist Elizabeth did not even speak with the hospital social worker to even convey their alleged reason for why my daughter was taken to be assessed. She was very focused on the fact that my daughter wasn't coming back with not an ounce of ethics. When I explained my harrowing experience with the process I was met with her empty excuse. Then when I let her know ow the outcome she had the audacity to imply that tbe treating staff at ETD was not really appropriate and I should take her to a real psych hospital. If that is the case why did they send my child there?

The reviews before mine., please believe them they were the youth at thus place. Some had a good time others did not. Lesson learned

We had very high hopes for my daughter when we brought her here. Staff seemed nice and caring and said all the right things. We were hopeful for this experience to bring healing and help my daughter to gain the coping skills she struggles with. Unfortunately, my daughter was there only 4 days before she was violently attacked by a housemate. She defended herself out of necessity. First fight she’d ever been in. Gratefully, because of the squabble she was asked to leave. Otherwise, I may never have known what an unhealthy/toxic place my daughter was in. My daughter couldn’t sleep because teens were crying and screaming all night. Paramedics had to come regularly. Kids were left unattended. My daughter said she was alone with a boy for about an hour and nobody knew. Foul language from staff was the norm.

My daughters counselor, Babita, apparently was offended when I gently asked what her credentials were. This is an individual who will have access to my child’s brain and well-being, of course I would like to know what her credentials are. In my daughter’s first session with her she said: “Your mom is so much, she wanted to know about my education and credentials, she needs to lay off me”. I was disheartened to hear that she said this to my child. The same “counselor” (I still don’t know what her credentials are, nobody would tell me,”Babita, constantly had screaming matches with the teenagers. Including cuss words (even the F word) and verbal degrading attacks. On top of everything they confiscated her retainer. Why, I don’t know. And then didn’t send it home with her.
PLEASE find another place to take your child. The things my daughter saw and heard were detrimental to her and in no way constructive or healing. She is still recovering from that experience. She slept for almost 2 days straight when she got home. She was pale and jumpy. She still has nightmares.
The staff is burned out and inexperienced. God was looking out for her when that fight happened and she came home. I can’t imagine how she would be if she had to stay there 30 days. If you are reading this review, it is because you are struggling with a teen that is going through hard times. Trust me parents, this is not the place that will help you. Please find somewhere else for your child. My prayers are will all of you. I know how hard this time is. Sending hugs to your parent hearts.
