I guess I’ll have to out myself for anyone else to see this, I just really need to express my experience. I had the honor of receiving help from her for about 1.5 years - started in the university as a group counselor and then after I graduated I decided to continue with Dr. Rich. I was excited since I didn’t really experience many Hispanic therapists, especially ones who understand the struggle of trying to thrive and live in a place that for the most part, doesn’t really take you seriously. Dr. Rich is caring, I want to accentuate that, shes someone who for a time was the only one I could talk with. There were many realizations; there were also many conclusions that maybe I can revisit again in the future with someone else. The thing is, I am also non-binary and trans, although at the moment I might not “look” like I’m trans or maybe i may not be “non-binary enough” (these are not Dr. Rich’s words so please don’t take it out of context). Dr. Rich lists in her profiles that she is a LGBTQ+ friend/expert, from my experience though I think she may only be familiar with other ideas of queer, such as being gay, lesbian, bisexual, and some others maybe. I experienced misgendering many times, would have assumptions placed on me since im in a pre-transition phase of my life, and even in the debriefing at the end in her report she again and again just addressed me in the binary. She was kind and understanding in other parts of my life, but in terms of being trans I just felt kind of betrayed at the end. She is a good therapist, and a caring person ~ I just think maybe she might not be a resonant therapist with everyone or certain parts of one’s life. I don’t know, I just feel hurt. I really do appreciate all the help, I hope you and everyone experience a beautiful life, thank you ~ mucho mucho amor, Javi.
