I was one of the 1st set of girls from Rhode Island. I graduated camp in 1984. One of the best counselors was Pam.
The program changed me for the good. I remember meeting the Eckerd's at their beach house. Also they had made a commercial and filmed my group and I. So many canoe, hiking trips.. memories lasting a lifetime.
I've had a successful life due to the skills I learned at camp. Husband and I recently retired & ready to enjoy our grandchildren.
I recommend this program and their core values.
Grateful for the Eckerd program.

I was there in 9th 10th grade. My transcript was lost so I was sent back to 9th instead of continuing to 11th. You have to pee is a 5 gallon bucket in front of others. I watched a nurse run to avoid being asked for help. I was cut off from family communication after being transferred from the Brookesville location and no one knew where I was for months. Girls beat on eachother and the chiefs, there were roaches scorpions and mice galore. I was in the best possible group in floral city and it was still hell.

Thinking of this place brings back some of the most traumatic experiences of my life. Sleeping in a tent that we had to build outside. Urinating in buckets that we had to clean after everybody. Hiking the app trail and carrying giant loads on our backs. Eating outside with cherry roaches. This place is awful.

I attended camp in 1999-2001. Best experience of my life so far, aside from having my 2 boys. I went in as an angry, resentful child, and 25 months later graduated as a respectful, happy young lady. I would not be the woman I am today if it weren't for camp and all the staff, from the Chiefs to the teachers to the receptionist (I adore Ms Carol) to the cooks, everyone is there because of the kids! I'm so grateful I was able to grow and learn how to be a productive member of my family and Society at camp, would not have wanted it any other way!!! If i could give it 10 stars I would!! 2 thumbs up.

Hello everybody. My name is John Murphy. I once was a camper there many years ago when they had a boys group there. We were called the Chiquita’s .
Experience there when I was a young man is something that I will never forget. I am now 47 years old I own two businesses. I would like to come back and revisit the camp it is something that I’ve always wanted to do for many years. I’m sure it has made so many changes. As I was looking at the pictures. But the one thing captured my heart is when I saw the big fireplace. Sat in the chuckwagon and saying many songs and had many accomplishments. But it sure would be nice to see that camp again.

I was a camper in 2013 for 9 months. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE. It may look nice on the outside when you drop them off but on the inside is truly horrible. Not only do they strip you all of your personal items except one stuffed animal, after you drop your child off, that's the last you'll see them for a long long while and when you do, it's only for a weekend. Their website pictures are stock photos. Nothing like the real thing. Gross warning ahead, at night if you have to go to the bathroom, either hold it or go in a small bucket that everyone else uses because they don't trust you to use the bathroom. WHAT!? And some girls have jobs to empty the full pee bucket into a tiny hole in the ground and clean it. Absolutely disgusting and unhygienic. If you miss breakfast, you walk what seems a mile to get it and walk back down to eat in the grass, and It gets pretty cold near September. Forced group therapy, staying up until 2am in the dirt while someone gets restrained, no freedom..I could go on. Please, save you're money (about $200 A DAY). This isn't your typical summer camp.
