It’s taken me some time to write this review because I’ve had mixed feelings about my experience with Melissa. While I found her to be kind and approachable, I was uncomfortable with her suggesting that I should be empathetic/understanding toward my abuser because they may have been a victim themselves. While I recognize the complexity of such situations, I don’t believe this is something you should tell victims. It felt invalidating and unhelpful during my healing process.

Additionally, I worked with Melissa for about 5-6 sessions over a period of 1.5 months. Despite this, she mentioned that we had been working together for 3 months and expressed uncertainty about how else she could help me. I'm not about to beg a therapist to keep seeing me, but it certainly left me feeling 'off.'

While Melissa might be a good fit for others, I didn’t feel that level of understanding or guidance in my sessions.

I had a consult with Melissa in May, had my initial appointment scheduled, and needed to cancel.

A week after canceling, the portal wouldn’t let me reschedule so Melissa said “Call the office.”

I’ve called from late May-August and we were unable to connect because they called while I was at work and couldn’t get away or I’d miss the call, return it seconds later only to leave another voice message.

Melissa returned my call a moment ago to schedule and she offered appointments outside my availability. I reminded her “I can only do 3 or later.” She said 2 is her latest (90 days ago she told me she doesn’t have availability at 3 but she’ll work me in). I let her know that I was scheduled at 3 before and with a slight tone, she said “That was in May, I’m full now.” You’re full at 3pm forever? Okay.

The consult with her was fine but today’s phone call made it seem like she just doesn’t want to be bothered so it’s for the best that we couldn’t connect. She seems like a good fit if there are no bumps in the road.

Melissa is energetic and has always been amazing to work with. The child’s well being and success is always her priority. She understands functions of behavior as well which is a huge bonus!
