I visited my father here for the past two days. All staff members I have met are well trained, courteous, and responsive. The ratio of nurse to patient is about 1:20, so this should be kept in mind when a patient has needs. The building itself is extremely clean and completely void of any odors. Daily activity sheets are handed out to the patients and the events my father participated in were well attended. He made a few friends here and was happy once he got settled in. He was indeed in good hands here at Hawthorne.
Cell phone coverage was mainly available nearer windows, and by nearer windows, I basically mean either at the window or in the outside (and very pleasant) veranda.
The rooms allow for personal touches to be added. Bring a chair though if you plan to stay in the room for a length of time.

My mom needed physical rehab after a stay at SMH and unfortunately I picked the wrong place and immediately started calling the other rehab places on the list SMH gave me to get a transfer done. I was able to connect with Karla at Hawthorne and she helped me get my mother moved the next day to Hawthorne. Karla text with me to help and gave me her personal attention to get the transfer done and I really appreciated that. The facility is great and the staff is amazing. If you are ever handed a list of facilities at the hospital to move a family member to, make sure you read the google reviews. Thank you, Karla, and the Hawthorne Team for taking care of my mom. This review starts with the very good at Hawthorne, which is the therapists: physical, speech and occupational who are all wonderful, compassionate and really good at what they do and the aides, who are caring and attentive, I can’t say enough about the aides who are doing some of the most challenging work with patients with love. Then there is the very bad at Hawthorne, the medical care: the nurses were dismissive and inattentive and the doctor who was inattentive and disrespectful. My mom had symptoms for 4 days which I tried to get them to address every day. After they let her suffer for 4 days, they finally did an X-ray and found that she did indeed have a problem. The only member of the medical team who was caring and attentive was the psych NP, otherwise, the medical care at Hawthorne is subpar.

I just want to say Hawthorne is a beautiful facility and I would love to give kudos to Mrs. Barber. Every time I deliver a resident, she there with a smile on her face, ready to help by putting them in bed or getting anything they need, She’s the best

WOW, Actually this was more than a couple years ago. You somehow delete your bad reviews so I reposted. As people can see you didn't deny this. You wish us the best? Sorry for our loss? The only thing that you all were sorry for was that we had a good lawyer and you didn't get away with it. We lost the heart of our family due to your staff and the negligence and cover ups that happened there! Scary thing is you said it happened a couple years ago when this happened even longer. Makes me think there must have been other cases like this!!! WOW. People please also check their inspections! Read the bad reviews ! Wish we would have before we put my grandmother there for rehab!

This place gets rid of their bad reviews after a while. Their negligence contributed to the death of my sweet grandma on the 2nd day she was there. She was only supposed to be there a week. Then we were told she had been taken by the medical examiner so we came to get her stuff. She was Put in her bed dead, her body all bruised and bloody! The examiner has not yet taken her as they said. I will never get that image out of my head! They tried to cover the whole story surrounding her death but thankfully we had a good lawyer! Keep your loved ones away!!!

After interviewing a few places for my grandmother I chose Hawthorne and so glad I did! The staff were really attentive to her needs and she called this place home until the day she passed. A couple of her favorites were Yaya and Richard. They really did treat her like family. I also have to say Nicole who is social services was amazing not only to her but also us. Tina is in charge of activities and she is truly amazing. I’m not saying everything was perfect but I will say this is the best place in Sarasota and if I had to do it again I would without any doubt! Thank you Hawthorne for taking such good care of my grandmother!!

The Director of Nursing is not transparent in her response when issues arise. Her lack of clear explanations create an unethical and dishonest environment. There most definitely is room for improvement when it comes to communication. I believe that with a more proactive approach, the nursing department can better address the needs of the residents. Timely responses and transparency would contribute to a more caring environment. I encourage everyone to stay engaged and check in regularly on their loved ones to ensure they are receiving the attention they deserve. Read all the lowest rating reviews when doing your research because I find them closely similar and true to our experience at Hawthorne. Go ahead and google how many complaints and violations they have. You’ll also be able to google that they’ve been on the top lists of poorly performing nursing homes. I began doing more research once my family member was badly injured there for obvious negligence and the Director of Nursing couldn’t give us a straight answer as to why this was ever allowed to happen.
