Horizon charter is so far has been the only school where my child has advanced! At this school they really care! Huge thanks to Mrs. Rebecca Nelson my son has advanced so much! This school is amazing they really care they don’t give up they always try to find the solution to the issue and find correct program that will fit your child needs.

Bad therapists, bad instructors, poor education. I also see that the instructors and therapists are a bit racist, they give more priority to some people than others and they constantly change the children's therapists and instructors!!
The rooms are super small where the children receive their therapies and the childrens can't have privacy!

We joined HCS for the 23-24 school year. We came in with 4 students in 3 cohorts. It was a lot for a first-time homeschool setting with 6 kids to take on, and my STs made it not only work, but the kids excelled here. I'm shocked at all the poor reviews recently. We have been in many schools due to moving. This was the first school that took my judgment and input seriously. I asked for advanced math for my 8th grader, and they immediately offered him the chance to test up a year. He got straight A's, so now he is being allowed to jump ahead again. My 12th grader graduated easily on time as a new transfer with 22 credits from Sierra College. He was able to take all his classes there for free. There is no threshold to attend; as long as you feel your student is able to, they can go. I have all 3 of my HS students now taking classes at Sierra. My incoming 9th grader will graduate HS with all his core units for a mathematics AS degree and most of his generals. They offer the chance to take summer school if you want to get as AS at graduation as well. Additionally, they provide funding for many activities such as sports, music, horseback riding, archery, art, ect. You can take your vacations on your time since all you need is an internet connection to attend. You are also allowed to work ahead if you don't want to bother with school on vacation. They will give you as much or little support as you want. I only checked in with the MS and HS student teachers Quarterly. My grade school kids had a few more check-ins, but the platform is all through Google Classroom, and assignments are turned in via smartphone. Tutors are available online during the support hours, or you can have the school pay for a private one. There were also many events, at least 1 every month, all optional, of course. School gets our early, and they did a nice job offering clubs and putting on graduation. I can't say enough good things, I have recommended HCS to everyone so far. Public has become a mess, divisive, political and one-size-fits-all unless you really know how to navigate the system. HCS lets you bypass all that. You can even choose your own curriculum. It's only the pages you turn in that have certain restrictions. Check out the open house. My neighbor is a retired school teacher, helping her grands through this and she loves and recommends it as well. But, be perapred to be particating in your kids lives. That's kinda the point. You have control, freedom, input, and responsibility. School isn't a babysitter, but especially not this one, so don't go in with that expectation. When they are little plan for 2-3 hours/day depending on the kid. The middle school kids need 1 hour/day or less. By HS, it's maybe 1 hour/week. It's the best thing we ever did for our kids and our family as a whole.

They promised my son advanced credits and required that he take advanced math classes to be A-G compliant. He received straight As and then they withheld his credits, demanding three years of funding for one advanced math class. They lie to parents and discriminate against their students by saying kids are auditing credits and are not really enrolled in their classes. Be very careful with this school. They created a huge mess with my son's credits, and they cohearse parents by demanding multiple years of funding for one course. They also made inappropriate, derogatory comments to my son. Terrible experience with administration that sets up meetings that never end to increase their funding with no intention of following through on what they promise.

As someone who went there for 3 years myself I could not dislike the school anymore than I already do. If i could rate the school lower i would. Some teachers are there to do their job but most disrespect and do not care about your child or anyone else. While there, I had gotten in trouble for things that were either not my fault or a misunderstanding but guess what, they don't care. Countless times would I and people that I know went there make a small mistake yet if we were to try and explain ourselves they wouldn't listen or just not care. If you really want your child in a good school, this is not the place.

If I could give this school negative stars, I WOULD!!!! Not only do they discriminate against students but their faculty fails to leads their students in the correct direction ultimately leading them to failure. Therefore, if you are serious about your children’s education, and want them to succeed I would look for alternative options. Along the same lines, they provide no direction for essays, assignments, zooms, other applications used, etc. There were many times students were never made aware of zoom classes and blamed and ridiculed for not attending. This school and their staff members seem to be incompetent, careless, and unqualified. They have no real intention of teaching or helping students, instead they tell them false information and hope they make it till the end of the year. Additionally, they have false records. They will claim your child is only doing x amount of hours of schoolwork when in reality they are doing far more than that. If your child still attends this school be prepared to have them graduated later than expected! I am astonished by their actions and the disregard for the students. Their whole system is confusing, unorganized, and stressful for EVERYONE involved. PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR KID(S) HERE!!!!

If you care about your child, don't enroll them here. They hide behind lawyers if they ever have a problem. Anyone wonder how they can't keep a site open more than it takes one student to graduate? The state has lots to spend on charter schools, horizon uses their funds incorrectly. All of their sites, Roseville, Auburn, etc. none exist anymore, their listings are still set as permanently closed on Google maps.

The experience with Horizon has one plus for me: my kids are done with it. The teaching staff was lackluster for the 2021-2022 school year but those few who did well then are gone. The 2022-2023 school year has come with racial discrimination by teachers, pettiness directed at kids because of internet connection issues, anger directed at children for needing help, etc. My kids have succeeded despite their teachers, not because of them. Malevolent incompetence is perhaps the best summary for this school and it's teachers.
