I have been going to Dr. Laird for a few years. I have been to several therapist and when she asked me what graduation looks like, I was shocked. I loved this question because it made me feel like therapy doesn't have to be a forever thing, where before I felt this way. Her approach has been life changing for me and has given me a better perspective on life. I also send my patients to her and I have seen remarkable changes within them.

I'm writing this under an alias as to avoid potential conflict. Dr Laird was recommended to me from a friend and I wanted to try therapy again after three years without treatment. Once we got to know each other and talk about goals and the like, I enjoyed her as a person. I felt as though I could trust her; she listened and gave me time to process and respond before cutting me off abruptly. Very genuine woman.

However after a month or so of seeing her, bi-weekly, we began to start some serious treatment. She diagnosed me and suggested I come weekly. We agreed and set the appointment for the following week. After my next visit she told she was overbooked to schedule me for my weekly appointment that WE agreed on. After that I was back to bi-weekly. I felt as though I was mislead and a bit disregarded. She also started to incorporate "homework" knowing I did not have the motivation to complete; I was in treatment to talk to someone not to be given worksheets like a child. When I told her I would try to do them, I'd get a smart remark.

The final straw was when I was having a particularly rough day and wanted to vent freely, openly, without judgement during my appointment. The appointment for a therapist who should be accepting and who I paid my money to for months. I did use some colorful as I was experiencing very raw emotions. None of it was ever directed at her. After each one she said to me; not asked, "Can you refrain from the expletives." I apologized and carried on; I let my profanity slip ONCE (1 ADDITIONAL TIME) again and she interrupted me to tell me not to. If you're going to be personally offended and try to censor someone, you should not go into a field where people want to express themselves. In the end I tossed my cash on the couch, thanked her and walked out.

If you're considering Dr. Laird for treatment, be weary of her attitude and persistent nature of pushing you against the grain. She's also very booked so don't expect to book multiple appointments at a time or get appointments more often than twice a month. She will be technical if you, for example, said you hated something; she'll pick and pry at such an insignificant statement, derailing the entire session. Also homework that she expects on your next visit and will go over it with you. Why not do it together while you're there? Who knows the method to her madness.

Dr.Laird is very informative, also intuitive; has help me become more productive and Has brought more light to my circumstances to help me change for the better!
