I provided clinical supervision to Motoko at Contra Costa Crisis Center where she was working with clients struggling with grief, trauma, depression, anxiety, and phase of life issues. She uses an evidence-based approach to treatment, employing information from neuroscience research. She is skilled at explaining issues and treatments in a simple language. She works collaboratively with her clients to assess and plan for their goals and treatment, using a range of approaches, including teaching coping skills, offering worksheets to change thinking patterns, role playing, and building self-esteem. It is important to Motoko that the client feel in charge of the treatment, choosing the topic and issues for focus in each session. She welcomes feedback and will review the progress of the therapy in relation to client's goals. Clients seem to feel safe in her non-judgmental and warm presence.
