So my child is on the spetrum. My nephew is all the way autistic. I called around and started talking to parents who trust this achool and the storys i heard are disgusting. How do you lock a diabetic medicine up leave it in a room far away from the life or death situation that happened. The one you brushed under the rug. This is one thier are tons. Stay away from this school

My son went here last year and everything seemed to go well. He did change teachers halfway through the year which I would have appreciated a heads up about and a little more communication throughout the year. But other than that everyone was kind and welcoming. We are attending this year too so hopefully all goes well.

My daughter has been going here for a couple years now and she loves it. She was having a lot of behavioral problems at her former elementary school and since the switch she's been less stressed. The staff are great and very understanding. I feel my daughter is happy and safe here, she looks forward to going to school. They don't just support the kids, they support the families and caregivers too.

I had my children there since preschool. It started ok. I went through ABA and have ptsd from it when i was a child so of course i didn’t want to put my children through it.

After preschool my son was declassified against my better judgement. While all that was happening, i got custody of my autistic diabetic brother in law who was 5 at the time. They had a nurse who was great with him. Was willing to learn the pump. Things were great.

Things didn’t go bad until i came out to the school staff that I am autistic too. I got diagnosed when my first son who was at the school was diagnosed.

They went through several nurses and teachers. My diabetic son had a teacher that would lock up and leave his medical supplies in the room. They left his medical kit locked in the nurse’s office. If you know anything about type one diabetes, it’s life threatening and this was a life or death situation. The security guard broke in and got us his medical supplies.

The following year they put him in a teacher who was amazing with him, miss Jessica. Nothing but love her her. She went above and beyond for my family and was supportive when i went public about being an autistic activist fighting the bleaching of autistic children.

The bcba told both my husband and myself the there Neurodiversity movement was a hate group. This is full of autistic people fighting for civil rights. She counts Autism Speaks as a good organization she representatives have done nothing about the medical mistreatment of autistic kids, have told me i “should not have bred” and called an autistic young woman the C word for fighting for her rights.

In between all that the principal told my diabetic son that he wasn’t allowed to have birthday cake or cereal when his endocrinologist said not to limit his diet. They caused a meltdown. We happened to be coming to the school when that happened and his endocrinologist was on the phone and she heard it. She gave them an earful.

After many nurses the last one went against the endocrinologist orders. Anyone with common sense can tell you insulin lowers blood sugar. She kept on trying to bolus him in the pump when he was low. She called us saying the pump was broken. Then we looked at our phones, dexcom transmits all his readings. His pump is programmed to stop insulin when his blood sugar is low. We saw he was low, dropped what we were doing and picked him up. We pulled him out after this.

His new school has a nurse that called the district diabetes educator. She had the same equipment as my son. They don’t turn diabetes into a dramatic thing. It doesn’t need to be because he was traumatized in foster care. I didn’t know the educator was a thing. PBSFA didn’t even try to call her. They put his life in danger.

They didn’t apologize. The BCBA and principal defensed the nurse’s actions. If you give insulin to a person who has low blood sugar, they could possibly die from hypoglycemia. The doctor backed us up on it.

Because they couldn’t handle him the bcba tried to disguise a threat to call DCF when he has been through the system and traumatized. If you look at his records on Dexcom, you will see he was only out of range at school.
