Focused stretching is the answer for now. I sought out care from Radius (as a result of the wonderful results my wife experienced from a Radius' treatment) for vehicle driving-related intermittent discomfort in my accelerator leg. Before the Radius treatment, I was not aware of the loss of muscle flexibility in my leg & foot muscles - with time & continued stretching, I am hopeful that my condition will be fully resolved. The Radius facility is immaculate, their staff is experienced & compassionate, my condition & its prescribed treatment methods (including home-based exercises) were evaluated & explained well, and the treatment period was reasonable - exactly what I was looking for!

Visited Radius for a sore back. They treated it with a combination of massage, stretching, and rehab exercises, which have worked well. They did a thorough initial assessment and I feel they developed a treatment to address my specific issues, rather than doing what they do for everyone. I like how they have an app that allows me to track my exercises (not everyone might like it, but it’s really effective for me). They are very encouraging and positive about the exercises and stretching, which keeps me doing that stuff regularly.

I have sought care with Radius Physical and Sports Rehab for 7 (!) years with various and sundry injuries, both minor and major.
The front desk personnel are always kind, helpful, and professional. The exercise and rehab staff are calm, encouraging and attentive. Dr. Eric and Dr. Chris are highly communicative, hands-on practitioners who work hard to get to the root of the issues. I have no hesitation in recommending this office for care!

I am extremely glad to have heard about Radius. This year, I had a medical incident which led to (among other things) my breaking and dislocating both of my shoulders. Initially, the hospital and my PCP both missed the injury, claiming I was overreacting about my extreme pain and not being able to move my arms. Dr. Whalen (my physical therapist with Radius) insisted on my getting an MRI, which showed that in fact, both of my shoulders were broken and dislocated. I was finally able to get the required surgeries. Both Dr. Whalen and Serene (my rehab specialist with Radius) have been with me through the recovery while I gain back my ability to use my arms and hopefully return to work. I highly recommend Radius Physical Therapy: they are knowledgeable, careful, and, for me, have been a significant part the difference between being a cripple and being whole again. If not for Radius, I don't know how long it would have taken to get the necessary surgeries to fix my broken shoulders.

Radius is a friendly and welcoming place with excellent professionals who can help you with a wide range of physical problems. In my case, I was able to find relief from bouts of extreme pain that had plagued me for years. Numerous specialists had looked at me, interrogated me, tested me, delivered their own opinions (which varied widely), and made a wide range of suggestions. The chiropractic treatments I have received at Radius, coupled with the physical therapy exercises that the practitioners there have suggested and demonstrated for me, have made a world of difference! Thank you Dr. Eric and thank you, Serene! In fact, thank you to the entire staff! Everyone at Radius is friendly, kind, and just plain fun. Yes, these people have helped my body; but in addition, they have helped me to remain joyful in the face of numerous physical challenges. That is what health care should be about.

The Radius docs and staff are affable, they supply a nifty app to demo and track exercises, scheduling is efficient, appointments generally start on time, and the facilities are spacious and clean.

Unfortunately, these attributes were far outweighed by the quality of the care I received and the billing for that care. I was misdiagnosed, given counterproductive treatment, and discovered that Radius billed Medicare and my private insurance for services it did not provide.

My GP diagnosed me with an injury to my Achilles tendon and referred me for physical therapy. I had consults with two practitioners: chiropractor Eric Dickerson of Radius, and a physical therapist at another practice. Eric persuaded me he was the better choice because, unlike a physical therapist, he had diagnostic skills.

During my initial evaluation, Eric opined, definitively, that I had not injured my Achilles, but rather my soleus muscle. He said he was able to rule out an Achilles injury by feeling the tendon. Given the inconsistent diagnoses, I told Eric I was inclined to get an MRI. Eric discouraged me, saying that an MRI was not necessary. I followed his advice, to my detriment.

Eric gave me exercises to perform at home. When I returned to his office after several days, my ankle was much more sore, swollen and bruised. In response, Eric modified some of the exercises, but not his diagnosis.

Meanwhile, I learned of another Radius patient who was misdiagnosed, discouraged from getting an MRI, and treated in a manner that aggravated rather than remedied his condition. In light of that information, I asked my GP to order an MRI. It confirmed that contrary to Eric’s diagnosis I had a partial tear of my Achilles.

When I shared the MRI report with Eric, he made some additional adjustments to his exercise regimen. He did not suggest I see a podiatrist or wear a walking boot, which I later learned is the standard protocol for an Achilles tear.

Based on the MRI, my GP referred me to a podiatrist. His treatment plan required me to stop Eric's exercises and wear a walking boot for a full month before starting even limited physical therapy and exercise. He told me the exercises Eric prescribed were counterproductive in that they generated scar tissue.

When I received the EOB from Medicare for the Radius treatments, I saw that on two occasions it billed for spinal manipulation. Eric had never touched my spine. Meanwhile, Medicare had paid a portion of Eric’s charges for spinal manipulation, but nothing for “therapy procedure using manual technique” or “therapy procedure using functional activities,” the services Eric and his “rehabilitation specialist” actually performed. I grew concerned that Eric had engaged in false billing to generate fees over and above the out-of-pocket amount I paid for each session.

After I reported the incorrect billings to Radius, Eric promptly acknowledged the errors and submitted corrected claims to Medicare, as required. He attributed the false charges to shortcomings during a “transition period” in which Radius switched to billing in-house. He did not state when the “transition period” began or ended, or, more importantly, that his office had reviewed for potential errors claims they submitted for other patients during the same time frame. If there were, in fact, billing problems due to a billing transition, it seems highly unlikely they were confined to me.

I have no way of knowing whether the billing irregularities were inadvertent, as Eric asserts, or deliberate, nor whether they were limited to me or part of a pattern and practice. There is rampant fraud and abuse in the Medicare program. The most common type is the submission of claims for services not furnished.

I have no idea whether Eric and his colleague, Chris, are adept at diagnosing and treating spinal conditions. But, with respect to joint injuries, I have serious doubts. Also, it troubles me that Radius was careless, at best, when it submitted improper claims to Medicare and my private insurance.

I have been under the care of Dr. Whalen, PT Serene, and Massage Therapist Geisser for close to 6 months now. I have experience with PT, massage and recovering from injuries for the majority of my life due to sports and the demands of my job. My experience here has been nothing but spectacular, everyone knows their craft, they work in conjunction with one another to focus on your injury or deficits with a goal to get you back up to speed. There is reassessment and progression throughout your program with current and up-to-date ideology. Radius wants you to get better, but they also provide you the exercises and tools to stay whole and not revisit the injury/problem.
