Roots to Branches is amazing! What Joe and Amanda have created is something I think all young children should experience. They are incredible with the kids. The way they interact with the kids is unique and effective. They allow them freedom while at the same time guiding/encouraging them to be compassionate, thoughtful, and caring little young people. All the while, they also document and take note of how your child is doing, interacting with others, what they are saying, how they are playing, etc. and report back to you. Bottom line. If you have the opportunity to enroll your child into Roots to Branches….. Do not hesitate! You will not regret it. Thank you Joe and Amanda for all you do!

We’ve had the privilege of having Amanda and Joe teach our two children over the course of 3 years. Their overall teaching style is gentle but firm guidance, allowing the kids to find their own paths when possible. They truly “get” each child’s unique personality and are always happy to share what goes on during school at pick up. This is on top of photos emailed to us every day. (This is not true of many preschools – I’ve heard of moms comment that while they know their child is happy, they have absolutely no clue what goes on at school!) My daughter learned a lot about negotiations her last couple of months at school, in her safe space. I think if she were in a larger class, this would have been difficult as Joe and Amanda were there every step of the way to help her and her best friends figure out how to effectively communicate, while balancing group versus individual needs. Being at an outdoor site forces children to be flexible and resilient. Nature’s challenges (yellow jacket swarms, flooding, rain and etc) teaches the children that life is unpredictable, and to make the best of the situation; what might seem a negative can turn out to be a great opportunity. In addition to the obvious nature-based curriculum, roots to branches also offers art stations, puzzles, games, and books. They are very big on honoring what the Child feels. (As adults, we often have our own agendas.) Amanda and Joe make sure each child has a voice and try to enforce peer to peer regulation for conflicts. Finally, because they are owner-teachers, they are 100% open to feedback and can instantly make changes as needed. There is also no staff turnover issue. At my daughter’s old school, it seemed like once she bonded with a teacher, that teacher had to leave.
