Unresponsive. I've reached out numerous times via email and tried calling. Their phone is inactive. Would love to start lessons but can't seem to reach them.

In a town with a real country flavor like Somers, horseback riding is an essential pastime.

This is reflected by companies like Shallowbrook, which was founded in 1962 and has two indoor arenas for horse shows, one of which is four stories high.

Although this all sounds very advanced, Shallowbrook offers lessons for all levels, whether you’re an absolute beginner or know how to ride but haven’t been in the saddle for years.

The center has lots of well-trained and groomed ponies and horses, but also serves as a first-rate boarding facility.

I’m giving them 2 stars instead of 1 because my initial correspondence was pleasant and professional. The trainer my kids met with for an intro lesson was lovely and friendly. However, the summer camp left much to be desired. The first time I came to pick up my kids, no one asked me who I was or how they could help me. I had to ask who was in charge and 3 teenagers standing together said they were counselors. They had never seen me before and didn’t ask for an ID before letting me leave with my kids and didn’t offer any kind of greeting when I first walked in the door. This is basic friendliness/professionalism. I had other family members helping with transportation and they felt the same way about the staff at first impression. Very unfriendly and unprofessional. Aside from this, the kids were often not ready to go at pick up, backpacks still unorganized and strewn about and still in bathing suits. When I complained, I got someone from the back saying “they’ve been told to get dressed again and again…” They are 5 and 7, so how about a little help getting organized from the 3-4 teenagers sitting in a corner not doing anything? The whole experience left a bad taste. The horses appeared well cared for and many other people seemed happy with them. Maybe they have had the professional experience I initially had with the trainers and have developed a relationship with the staff, but to someone whose kids were attending for the first time, it was very unfriendly. If it were my business, I would be pretty upset how it was being represented to newcomers. We won’t be returning. I would complain to the business, but my first complaint was responded to with defense so I don’t think I will be heard. I’m disappointed. My kids go to other summer camps and this kind of thing hasn’t been an issue anywhere else.

Be SURE to do your research! Absolutely the most rude, unprofessional people there are. There is another post about a year ago citing the same thing. Very unprofessional.
