Horrible experience, would not recommend it to anyone. I believe the supervising physician and nurse practitioner should be counseled.
I was sent to this rehab from Advent Daytona Beach, who apparently missed fractures in my lumbar and sacrum. Although the hip repair seems to have been done well, I was in excruciating pain from my lower spine to the point I could barely walk more than a few steps or even sit on a toilet.
The first encounter with my CNA, she appeared at my bedside and said get up. I said I need assistance. She said this is assistance. That lady should be fired immediately. several employees said they had witnessed such berating verbally abusive behavior before and were surprised she had not been fired.
Understand, I was in screaming pain! The fact that the nurse practitioner could not hear it since the nurses’ station was two doors down is unbelievable. She did nothing to check or to have me transferred back to Advent to evaluate the cause of the pain.
In my opinion, this is elder abuse and staff is not aware of Florida requirements for elder treatment.
I do give a hat off to PTA Viviana, who recognized my extreme pain and tried to get the nurse practitioner to help – to no avail – and OT Brooke and PT Laurie, who were very kind and did what they could given my condition.

My mother was recently a rehab patient at this facility. It was the worst mistake I've ever made. I'm giving it one star only to present my review. She had very poor quality of care. She would push the call light and wait over an hour many times with help to go to the bathroom. I was in the room with her a lot of times and witnessed it. I caught several CNA's talking hateful to my Mom like she was a pain to take up their time. When we signed her up for this facility we were told three sit down showers a week in the bathroom. That never happened. The food was absoulutely disgusting on top of everything else. I complained to different people working my way up the ladder only to fall on deaf ears. She would be left sitting in a wheelchair for 4-5 hours and they were told she had lower back problems with sciatica. They showed no compassion whatsoever. I witnessed a 92 y/o female patient being treated poorly several times. And to top it all off, we were conned into switching her regular insurance to Medicare. It was a huge mistake on our part to let this happen. My Mom is 89 y/o and she lives with my husband and myself. I am her caregiver. She got a bill close to $10,000 dollars a few days ago from this facilty. I called the billing person who told me she was at two facilities and she was not. It made no sense to me or my husband. Then a day later we are informed that she owes over $3,000 dollars. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. We feel that we were conned. I really could care less for an I'm sorry you feel this way reply. There is more to the story, but I will end it here.

DO NOT GO TO THIS FACILITY FOR ANY REASON!!!!! Our case manager from Advent Hospital gave us a list of about 12 facilities in the Daytona area. My husband had suffered a mild stroke and needed rehabilitation NOT a nursing facility. Even though the PT & OT were doing a good job it was the nursing facility that failed to provide the proper care. My husband's health started to deteriorate so I got him out of there as quickly as I could. He had lost 20 pounds from the time he was in the hospital (11 days) and the 7 weeks at The Gardens. Sometimes my husband would have to wait hours before someone would respond to his call button and then some of the CNA's had such nasty attitudes and verbally and physically abused him. The 11:00 pm-7:00 am shift was a nightmare because the nursing care was so poor that my husband often never had anyone check in on him or respond to his call button. I repeat "DO NOT GO TO THIS FACILITY"

If I could give NO STARS I would!!!! This place is cesspool!!! You NEVER see a doctor!!! You have to beg for any kind of tests or bloodwork! The food is absolutely disgusting!!! If you’re a diabetic or have a specific type diet, they could care less!! Everyone gets the same disgusting food!! My mother is diabetic and got carbs upon carbs for breakfast lunch and dinner!! They even put salt on top of her applesauce instead of sugar!!! That shows you how CARELESS they are!!! They have a nutritionists but for what reason I don’t know cause they do NOTHING!! The beds are crap, equipment is broken, the paint is peeling off the walls, there’s also holes in the walls!! They are always out of blankets, cups, straws, lids, pads for the bed, pillows, soap, baby wipes, orange juice, ANY KIND OF JUICE…you name it, they are out of it!! FOR WHAT YOUR INSURANCE PAYS, you shouldnt have to bring stuff from home!! I had to bring everything!!!! Not even ginger ale did they have!!IF YOU LOVE YOUR FAMILY MEMBER, DO NOT SEND THEM HERE NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE TELLS YOU!!!! There are a handful of full of people that are wonderful like Janell, but the 11pm-7am shift if the ABSOLUTE WORST!!! They even tried to put my completely capable mother in a diaper just because they didn’t want to be bothered helping her out of bed!!! Her sugar would drop and they wouldn’t even give her orange juice!! Even after I bought it and put it in their refrigerator!!! One nurse gave her a HAM SANDWICH AT 5am When her sugar dropped!! Who the hell can eat a ham sandwich at 5am? RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! My poor mother said she would rather die in her own bed than go back there!!!! NOBODY (except a few wonderful people) GIVES A CRAP ABOUT YOU THERE!!! No compassion, no assistance, no nothing!! Just a note: someone said they should be counseled? They ALL SHOULD BE COUNSELED!

This is a friendly reminder for the haters of The Gardens Health and Rehab especially to Mildred and the remaining people who have posted ridiculous accusations.

Nurses are humans and not an emotional punching bags for you or anyone else to take their frustrations out on them for your family members health problems. Those health problems and their current needs, and your guilt happened way before coming to The Gardens Health & Rehab.

I would encourage you Mildred, your sister and the rest of the haters to seek someone to talk to. I hope you may find peace in the guilt you are feeling, that you feel the need to publicly humiliate these Nurses,The Gardens Health & Rehab and every family member like myself who has a family member in the facility receiving excellent care.
The staff are not your psychologist, your escape goat for what you can not provide for your loved one.
I'm so blessed to have them so I can continue on living my life, sleeping at night, and allowing the care of professionals including Dr. Kwong MD, Kathy Erickson ARNP, Dr. Shah MD, Lori the Wound Care Nurse and the rest of the whole team working towards the best outcome for my mother.

Joe the administrator and Tasha The Director of Nursing have always listened and took care of what I've asked of them. Carletta & Jessica are one of my mothers caring and compassionate nurses. Many of the CNA's, housekeeping, maintained, dietary staff make my mother smile.

In the end I am Thankful for The Gardens Health and Rehab as well as you should be too.

In reading these past reviews it truly sounds as many of you are mad, frustrated and have your own guilt.
It is not acceptable to place the blame game on others in a public platform because of your own behaviors please try some Gratefulness & Kindness.
Thank you The Gardens Health & Rehab for doing the very best for all you take care of and making my family blessed.

Staff are: concerned, patient, caring, and informed about my Mom's condition.
My siblings and I are grateful for the care and attention they extend to our Mother.
I will never be able to fully thank them for all they do.
With thanks,
Ann (Elsa's daughter) 💜

This place is a joke. If you are planning on having your loved one stay here, please don't!! Starting with one very rude nurse that works here, Jessica who shows no authentic care or bedside manner at all for my dear mom. She obviously should not be a nurse, very rough and argumentative. Don't bother pressing the button, they won't come until 2-3 hrs later!! When I commented about how long they take to come to my mom's room, Jessica said "we're here now" very rudely!! 'The only nice CNA is Lorna and Jennel. Patient care is so neglectful, so again, if you truly care about your loved one, do not place your mom, dad or anyone for that matter. Update: Don't bother talking to the director Joe Hagar, because he threatened me by telling me if I didn't take this google review down, my sweet dear mom would not be coming back after being discharged from the hospital, but it's ok, because she will actually be going to a much better Rehab, since my mom only deserves the best care, and I wouldn't even want her to go back to this place that deserves 0 stars!!

Go up
