Twin Rivers was offered as an IOP program after leaving an inpatient program for trauma leading to unhealthy life choices. The staff of therapists working there are very experienced in this line of therapy. Very supportive. I was able to learn how to connect and thrive with family members who gave up on me. I like the group sessions. After leaving over a year ago, I still get daily encouraging words of wisdom by texts. Sober minded today by the grace of God and the support of Twin Rivers, family, church family and others giving me the tools to focus on hope and service.

My experience was ,I was there for two months and the therapy was great but then out of the blue the Intake
Person
Jessica said my husband was financially abusing me and handed me a woman abuse pamphlet and said I had to have a goal of getting a place on my own the next day.. We do everything together financially, and my husband is loving, caring, and supportive. She said that I couldn’t have my husband involved with my care and I had to write down another person besides my husband as my emergency contact, I was going to get releases from the ISO program. I in shock at what was happening . I was suffering with a new head injury . No one asked me anything about it or I how I was doing. I chose my oldest daughter for my emergency contact. The director also asked who can I say with because she wanted me away from my husband because she thought he was abusive? I really don’t know how all this started. I said my oldest daughter and I was doing all of this because I wanted to stay in the program because I needed it and I felt pressured into it because of The director’s demeanor
It was an ultimatum. The director called my oldest daughter and my oldest daughter to let her know she was my new emergency contact . I was threatened if I didn’t have a home a month from then that I was gonna be thrown out of the program because I was currently staying at Sunseekers and when I got home that day God stepped in and we got approved for housing. They were probably disappointed because they wanted me to get my own place without my husband . Then another meeting happened Wednesday . I got asked about my , my life, my past, present even future all kinds of questions . I was also asked what would my life look like in a perfect world. I felt like it was an interrogation, and I told them that in the meeting and I had severe anxiety and I felt very pressured . It was awful. I have social phobia as one of my disabilities.I was hoping they would see the truth because I bonded with my group and I loved my therapists Tonya and Amber and I was starting to heal and learn the tools for coping. After the meeting the intern Colby said I have a goal that I had to have a one on one therapist by Friday. That’s when I thought I was going to continue ISO . My therapist said see you in group Friday and I said I’ll come Thursday also since I missed some group days . Tonya said OK. The Director called me the next Day Thursday and I was told I was being released from the ISO program and I immediately felt in shock and very disappointed . It was devastation for me. The Director said I had to go to NA meetings and she mentioned the pamphlet she handed me
Prior for the woman’s abuse center. I wasn’t processing it at the time due to brain damage. She wouldn’t answer my questions about why. I was being released. I found out later on that she had called my daughter and apparently asked her a whole bunch of questions and told her why I was being released but never told me a word or ask me a question about anything she just accused. . I had just fallen at church and I hit my head on a stack of metal benches. Some symptoms had started developing and maybe I said something in group I wasn’t supposed to .Not sure yet. I never had a guideline of what to say and what not to. Such a lack of communication in there . I found out The intake person Jessica called my daughter and told my daughter that based on my behavior, she thought I was abusing my pain Medicine. The Director formed her own opinion without evidence just assumption . There is no truth to it. If this continues to happen. It may cause people’s conditions to become worse or commit suicide, before they can find other care especially people like me who have complex PTSD and all of this was on assumption. The Director said to me you know the truth in my heart of hearts. . Yup. I do The ‘Truth’ I have lost some faith in therapy. I’m trying to fight the depression this has caused. I was doing so well. I was in Wendy’s group and I almost left because of the inappropriate discussions.

It started out good with the therapists and the group was very supportive.
I was here for 5 months.
Then it went downhill quickly when director Jessica started judging what I was disclosing and wouldn't allow me to speak in group because I was triggering other clients with the trauma I had encountered.
Just when I thought I was making progress there's always that one person who wants to push you back down. In this case it was the person in charge. Goes to show not everyone is accepting of you, even in a therapeutic setting.

I prayed to God 🙏 Almighty ONE about this and asked him...
why is this happening to me here?

God showed me that Twin River Pathways is going to sink into Port Charlotte Harbor for judging and excluding clients from their practice when they really needed help.

This is something that director does quite often. I even witnessed it with my own eyes and ears. Giving clients a false sense of security when it is clear they have alteria motives of pinpointing you as crazy when your probably not.

Not allowing people to speak their truth and peace to the group when the director has clear intentions of showing you the door is going to get you a bad review on Google.

Obviously I have trust issues with psychiatrists. I am ready to tell the world why.
Thou SHALT not judge ONLY GOD

Recently I had the pleasure of inviting Jessica Nickola for a speaking engagement on trauma-informed care for my psychiatric nursing class at Jersey College in Port Charlotte. Jessica has an incredible depth of knowledge and compassion for this subject. What stood out most during her presentation was her ability to create a safe and supportive environment allowing time for the students to share their experiences. The student feedback gathered related to a deeper understanding of trauma and its impacts, as well as practical tools to apply in their professional and personal lives. I highly recommend inviting Jessica to any organization looking to deepen their understanding of trauma-informed care.
