Been with them 8 years, each year is better then the last. They give you as much support as you need and want. Both my kids are extremely happy with their education and freedom of learning. Our teacher has had our kids since kinder and knows them so well. Even this many years later we are happy with visions and all they offer of kids, no other charter compares.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE VISIONS!
I have three students currently enrolled in Visions. One of them is in the Special Education program. The CT's are very caring, experienced, and knowledgeable! And Roderic Branch, Case Manager for my son in Special Ed, is an absolutely AMAZING teacher/mentor/person! They customize your child's educational experience to the individual student! The staff & teachers truly care about the student's LIFE achievements, and not just academics, curriculum, and statistics! Each student K-8, gets $2600 in Educational Funds to use, and with over 3000 vendors, there are endless possibilities for enrichments to keep the students involved in extracurricular activities! I have tried educating my children through SS Charter, private & public schools, and have found VISIONS to be what works best for my family!

All of my kids have done at least one year here if not two. They've got caught back up in their schools and came back top of the class. The teachers are great and everything is very simple for the parents to understand.

I enrolled with Visions in Education the first year they were established. Then, when I graduated high school with them, I got a job as a clerk and worked there for about a year. Unfortunately, there were budget cuts and all of the clerks got laid off. It was an effect from when the 2001 tech bubble burst.

That said, I really needed Visions in Education. I was having a very difficult time in my health and personal life. Without them, I wouldn't have been able to get back on track and caught up. I liked that I was able to choose between many items, such as which books to study from, as long as they met the curriculum and were on the list. I took college prep courses in English, which I was great at. I was really struggling with math, especially because I missed a lot of school before joining VIE. Therefore my teacher signed me up for math economics, which helped me get back to the basics and apply it to real life. I learned how to write checks, do my own taxes (manually), take house and property measurements, determine how much mileage a car would get on a take of gas, etc. It got me back on track with math, taking away anxiety and prepared me for community college math classes. It also taught me many basic life skills, which mom could not because she worked so much.

I also took a kickboxing class near my house for my PE hours. The instructor was happy to sign off on my hours.

It allowed for so much more creativity and individualized study.

A benefit for me was that I went in my sophomore year. By then, I was very independent in my studies, and I planned to go to college. My mom worked from 1 pm until 10 pm, so she couldn't have been deeply involved. I don't know if it's still this way, but a teacher came by my house once a week, and we would go over everything. If I got really stumped during the week, I was able to call her.

I would say the only drawback was my schedule. I have always been a night owl, and I didn't stay on a decent schedule.

I had all the friends I needed, and I met them in elementary school (same friends I have this day).

I definitely recommend VIE for the right families. Parents, esp with younger children, need to understand that they will be heavily involved with teaching, and it's going to require lots of time. Also, social development could be impacted (however, I believe VIE has implemented some efforts to allow for social interaction with fellow VIE students, but it's up to the parents if they want their kids to participate).

Also, public schools are very much limiting school supplies these days, so don't expect any different with VIE, which is also a public school. I don't have kids, but I usually get my niece and her school list and take her shopping. Our church also fills backpacks for kids who parents are incarcerated. That said, there are lots of opportunities for low income families to get school supplies.

I hope some find my review useful.

I homeschool my 4 children and we love it! Our CT is amazing and so is all the staff! Only regret is that we should have homeschooled sooner.
